The Stanford Sportsman Club

Founded in 1957 the Stanford Sportsman Club consists of two fishing lakes that have almost 5 acres of fishable space. Bill Haynes represents the Club as President, Gary Hawkins as acting Secretary/Treasurer, and Johnny Greathouse, Brain Park, Dave Able, and Jo Beth Smith as Board Members. While the club offers the lake properties for members to fish it also offers camping and picnicking for the whole family to have fun.

Over the years the Sportsman Club has created a tradition of hosting a Kid’s Fishing Derby every May. This year’s event was hosted on May 22nd and consisted of a free lunch, t-shirts, and trophies for the kids. This tradition has carried on with those who participated in the event years ago as kids bringing their own kids to join in on the fun.

Due to the Club’s limited membership of 125 family memberships, the Club has a close-knit group with families coming back each year to renew their membership and new ones joining. Donations to the Club have allowed things like pavilions to be built growing the Club and what it can offer to its members.

Those interested in joining the Club can put in an inquiry either by emailing the Club at stanfordsportsmanclub@gmail.com or by messaging them on Facebook under their Page “Stanford Sportsman Club”. Due to the Club’s limited memberships, those interested will likely be put on a waiting list until a spot opens up. The cost of a yearly membership is $100 and any Club rules are given once new members join and pay their dues.
