Benefit for Brian Waldon

Last fall, local business owner Brian Waldon suffered 2 massive strokes that took his vision and impaired his memory. Unable to continue working, Brian fell under the care of his mother and father. Despite help from his family, Brian’s medical bills kept piling up - the 2 largest total over $500,000 -the Waldon family knew that it was time to act accordingly. With the help of the Deer Creek American Legion, a benefit is being planned.

Starting at 1:00 P.M. On Saturday, July 9th, the American Legion will be bursting with live music and fun events that are slated to last until at least 11:00 P.M. Performances with no less than 7 bands are scheduled, along with multiple raffles, and live auctions. A bags tournament is also being held, with a cash prize going to the Number 1 team. Not to mention the dunk tank, bake sales, and games for the little ones. Perhaps the biggest item of the raffle is a Smith & Wesson M & P Shield Plus, a 9mm pistol meant for concealed carry, which also comes with 4 magazines.

However, pulling off a day full of fun is a surprising amount of work. While the Waldon family have proven to be capable and resilient, they could use some extra hands. People are needed to help with the raffles, food prep, and a lucky few will be able to cool off in the dunk tank. If you play your cards right, you might even have the opportunity to send me in the drink - providing you can actually throw straight, which I doubt.

All proceeds will go to Brian Waldon’s medical bills and providing long term care. If your calendar is clear on July 9th, consider heading down to the Deer Creek American Legion to support a great local cause. If you would like to volunteer your time, a meeting is being held at the American Legion on June 15th at 6:00 P.M. If you cannot make the meeting, you can give Stephanie McFarlane a call at (309) 370-0617 and she will fill you in on the details. See you on July 9th!
